PHP has been around for sometime.
Then there is PEAR, and PECL.
Then there where 10-30 or so different PHP application frameworks designed specifically for their intentded application.
Then there were countless applications like Drupal, SugarCRM, vTiger, Joomla etc...
But there hasn't been a standard for designing applications in a repeatable, scalable and stuctured manner.
That is why Zend Framework is being created to lead the way to a breed of PHP-based applications for the enterprise.
Zend Frame works! It works very well. Leveraging OO-concepts, MVC, XML, OO-DB and facilitating Web 2.0 mashups very nicely.
